I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and Counsellor.
In my work as a Lactation Consultant and Counsellor I understand breastfeeding is the way nature meant us to feed our babies. But sometimes life gets in the way, and I also know that establishing breastfeeding, and transitioning into mothering, does not always come so easily for everyone.
My work combines my interests and knowledge in breastfeeding, and the importance of supporting mothers to be the mothers they want to be for their babies. I can use different counselling modalities, and Reiki for mothers and babies, to support new mothers in their transition into motherhood, and to keep motherhood inspiring.
My interest in health and how people lived their lives has been present form the start. In my career I first did my nursing training, and then worked as a as a State Registered Nurse for 10 years. But along the way, I found questions kept arising, namely, “What is health?” and “What is wellbeing?” And I found the medical model, on its own, did not answer this question for me.
My interest more broadly lies in the bigger picture of what it means to be mentally, physically and emotionally healthy. Of how people live their lives and the choices they make, and in turn, how these choices can both affect them, and support them, in their lives. And all this has now come together for me now in my work with mums and babies and breastfeeding, and counselling.
I am the mother of 2 teenage boys, and my first breastfeeding qualification was as a Breastfeeding Counsellor with the Australian Breastfeeding Association. I fed my boys for 2 years, and 3 years, and this included some time tandem feeding. I have been an active Breastfeeding Counsellor with the Brunswick Group of the ABA for nearly 15 years, and in 2011 qualified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and now work in Private Practice
To support myself in my daily life and work, I am part of a study group, reading Rudolph Steiner, and other esoteric writers. Being part of this group feeds me at a different level, and supports me in my personal journey on this earth.
For a lactation consultation, Janette will visit your family in your own home.
For other counselling consultations, Janette works in Brunswick.
For lactation consultations, I can be available 7 days a week, and as is the nature of breastfeeding when it is not working, I can often be available at short notice. Please ring 0402 088 113 to arrange an appointment.
